What TV antenna do I need in Capel Sound?

A standard-gain UHF antenna pointed ENE and mounted vertically (elements upright) gives reliable reception for most homes. The regional main transmitter (Melbourne, 72.5 km NE) is generally not usable here without a high-gain installation; the translator is the intended service.

TV reception in Capel Sound

Free-to-air TV in Capel Sound comes from the Rosebud local translator at Rosebud, 1.2 km to the ENE (bearing 71°). It broadcasts on UHF (channels 28–51) channels 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, vertically polarised.

A standard-gain UHF antenna pointed ENE and mounted vertically (elements upright) gives reliable reception for most homes.

Pockets of Capel Sound shadowed from Rosebud can use the Safety Beach translator (6.7 km ENE, UHF channels 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, H polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.

The regional main transmitter (Melbourne, 72.5 km NE) is generally not usable here without a high-gain installation; the translator is the intended service.
