Which way to point your TV antenna

Enter an address or suburb for the true and magnetic bearing, the distance and a bare terrain line of sight check to the transmitter that serves it.

    Antenna height above ground

True north and magnetic north are not the same

A map bearing is measured from true north. A compass needle points to magnetic north, which in Australia sits several degrees away from it. We give both figures, so use the magnetic one when you are on the roof with a compass or a phone.

Terrain matters as much as direction. A hill between you and the transmitter can sit above the straight line between the two antennas, which is why we draw the ground along the whole path.
