TV Antenna Installation Redhead 2290

TV reception in Redhead

Free-to-air TV in Redhead comes from the Newcastle main transmitter at West Wallsend, 21.1 km to the NW (bearing 309°). It broadcasts on UHF (channels 28–51) channels 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, horizontally polarised.

A medium-gain UHF antenna pointed NW and mounted horizontally (elements flat) gives reliable reception for most homes.

Pockets of Redhead shadowed from Newcastle can use the Belmont North translator (3.9 km W, UHF channels 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, V polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
