TV reception in Hawthorndene
Free-to-air TV in Hawthorndene comes from the Adelaide main transmitter at Crafers, 8.3 km to the ENE (bearing 58°). It broadcasts on VHF Band III (channels 6–12) channels 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, horizontally polarised.
A standard-gain VHF antenna pointed ENE and mounted horizontally (elements flat) gives reliable reception for most homes.
Pockets of Hawthorndene shadowed from Adelaide can use the Adelaide Foothills translator (10.9 km NNW, UHF channels 34, 35, 36, 37, 39, H polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
