TV reception in Edmonton
Free-to-air TV in Edmonton comes from the Cairns main transmitter at Mt Bellenden Ker, 29.6 km to the SSE (bearing 158°). It broadcasts on VHF Band III (channels 6–12) channels 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, horizontally polarised.
A medium-gain VHF antenna pointed SSE and mounted horizontally (elements flat) gives reliable reception for most homes.
Pockets of Edmonton shadowed from Cairns can use the Gordonvale translator (4.9 km SE, UHF channels 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, H polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
