TV reception in Winmalee
Free-to-air TV in Winmalee comes from the Sydney main transmitter at Artarmon / Gore Hill / Willoughby, 54.5 km to the ESE (bearing 107°). It broadcasts on VHF Band III (channels 6–12) channels 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, horizontally polarised.
At this distance a high-gain VHF antenna is the standard fit; homes in dips or behind ridgelines often also need a masthead amplifier.
Pockets of Winmalee shadowed from Sydney can use the Sydney North West translator (14 km N, UHF channels 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, H polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
