TV reception in Waratah West
Free-to-air TV in Waratah West comes from the Newcastle main transmitter at West Wallsend, 16.5 km to the W (bearing 274°). It broadcasts on UHF (channels 28–51) channels 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, horizontally polarised.
A medium-gain UHF antenna pointed W and mounted horizontally (elements flat) gives reliable reception for most homes.
Pockets of Waratah West shadowed from Newcastle can use the Merewether translator (7 km SE, UHF channels 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, H polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
