TV reception in Soldiers Point
Free-to-air TV in Soldiers Point comes from the Newcastle main transmitter at West Wallsend, 53.6 km to the WSW (bearing 247°). It broadcasts on UHF (channels 28–51) channels 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, horizontally polarised.
At this distance a high-gain UHF antenna is the standard fit; homes in dips or behind ridgelines often also need a masthead amplifier.
Pockets of Soldiers Point shadowed from Newcastle can use the Port Stephens translator (6.6 km ESE, UHF channels 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, V polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
