TV reception in Hamilton East
Free-to-air TV in Hamilton East comes from the Newcastle main transmitter at West Wallsend, 20.5 km to the W (bearing 281°). It broadcasts on UHF (channels 28–51) channels 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, horizontally polarised.
A medium-gain UHF antenna pointed W and mounted horizontally (elements flat) gives reliable reception for most homes.
Pockets of Hamilton East shadowed from Newcastle can use the Merewether translator (2.5 km ESE, UHF channels 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, H polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
