TV reception in Coal Point
Free-to-air TV in Coal Point comes from the Newcastle main transmitter at West Wallsend, 17.5 km to the NNW (bearing 338°). It broadcasts on UHF (channels 28–51) channels 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, horizontally polarised.
A medium-gain UHF antenna pointed NNW and mounted horizontally (elements flat) gives reliable reception for most homes.
Pockets of Coal Point shadowed from Newcastle can use the Belmont North translator (6.7 km ENE, UHF channels 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, V polarisation), which needs a UHF antenna pointed the other way, a common cause of "wrong antenna" reception faults after DIY installs.
